Fourth of July

The annual White Place Fourth of July Parade and Celebration is Monday, July 4. The parade begins at 10 am -- decorate your bikes, wagons, strollers, pets, etc. and join in! Or, line the street to cheer on the participants. There will also be games and water activities for the kids in the medians. Hope to see you all there!

Annual Yard Sale

Don't forget - the White Place Yard Sale is this Saturday, June 18 at 8 a.m. This is an excellent opportunity to clean out your closets/garages/basements/attics, etc! A classified ad will be placed in the Pantagraph and I'm told we usually get a good turnout.

House Tour

The Old House Society's annual House Tour is Saturday, June 11. Here's some more information:

2011 Annual House Tour

The Old House Society has organized and sponsored house tours for more than 25 years to help people visit, understand and develop an appreciation of our local historic homes. This year's tour will focus on the White Place Historical District (including houses on White Place, Fell Avenue and Clinton Avenue). This area has had a significant impression on our local community.

The tour will be held Saturday, June 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 pm.

Tickets can be purchased at the following places:

Old House Society Warehouse (214 E. Douglas St., Bloomington)

Garlic Press (Normal)

The David Davis Mansion Gift Shop (Bloomington)

Country Gingham (Bloomington)

Day of tour tickets will be available at the informational tent at Fell Park.

Cost: $10 (advance); $15 (day of tour); Children 12 & under Free

Here's a quick note to say that this will be my last post to the White's Place blog. Thanks to everyone in the neighborhood for being family to us over the past 7 years and for making it such a great home! Amanda and I are forever indebted to you all for your generosity. Thank you!

2011 Event Planning Meeting

All Whites Place residents are invited to attend our annual planning meeting at the Hogenson's (#28) to discuss upcoming events. Want to host an annual event? Northwest Neighborhood Association (NNA) updates

Here's a note I received from the Northwest Neighborhood Association (NNA) recently:

Date: Tuesday, November 16 @ 7pm

Location: Crosswinds Community Church, 400 W. Union Street, Bloomington, IL

The Northwest Neighborhood Association (Center to the railroad tracks; Division to Locust) invites its neighboring associations to attend its next association meeting to hear a special guest speaker: Epiphany Farms Enterprise, a farm-to-fork operation based in Downs, IL.

They are opening a restaurant in downtown Bloomington next spring and are hosting educational dinners about their sustainable and "more than organic" farming practices until then.

Please RSVP to Cheryl Ball (cball@ilstu.edu) if you'd like to attend. We will also have a cookie recipe swap at the meeting that night!

Neighborhood Yard Sale this Saturday

Just a quick reminder that our annual yard sale event is planned for this Saturday, August 21st from 8 am to 1 pm. A classified ad will appear in the Pantagraph. This event usually generates a lot of traffic, so here's your chance to part with your valued but neglected possessions. With two open houses scheduled, expect the neighborhood to be hopping!

Weather on Saturday is calling for a high in the upper 80s with a 40% chance of rain through the early afternoon.
