Fourth of July Parade & Celebration

The neighborhood's annual Fourth of July Parade & Celebration is on Wednesday, July 4. The parade starts at 10:00 a.m.--decorate your bikes, strollers or wagons and join in the fun! Or, come out to cheer on the marchers. The street will be closed to traffic and we'll have games and water activities in the median for the kids.

White Place Archway

Next time you are out for a walk in the neighborhood, be sure to swing by the arch to check out the fresh coat of paint. Thanks to our neighborhood association president Dave H. (#28) for working with the city to keep our neighborhood looking good.

Garage Sale

My final decision on garage sale hours. We will be open on Friday 2-7 pm to catch the after work crowd and then on Saturday 8-noon. We have way too much stuff in my garage for only one day of sales. Hoping to get rid of big stuff quickly. If anyone else is going to open on Friday let me know and I will send people your way! My Pantagraph ad reads: Friday, June 15, 2-7pm and Saturday, June 16, 8-noon- Garage sale and craft sale-Many families continuing to purge means many treasures for you! Outdoor toys, Little tikes swing set, children’s clothes, infant clothes and other baby items, toys, men’s and women’s cloths, kitchen items, decorations, candles, electronics. Also have craft items/gifts for sale. FREE Children’s books (one per child).

Garage sale

I am planning to have my garage sale for at least 2 days (friday 8-4 and maybe be open Thursday 4-7 also) and Saturday of course. .. If anyone is interested in be open these same hours or want me to send people your way please let me know. I will be placing ad on Monday evening! "On Broadway"

The Old House Society will be hosting its annual Tour of Homes on Saturday, June 9th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. This year the tour will focus on houses on and near Broadway Place in Normal, IL. This has become a popular annual event--last year more then 1,200 people toured homes in the Whites Place Neighborhood. The cost for the event is $10 in advance or $12 the day of the tour. Restoration Grants

The Old House Society recently announced its Restoration Grant Program. The program provides old house occupants with assistance and a helping hand in their efforts to repair or restore their old homes. The Restoration Grant Award is $500 ($250 in cash, and $250 in OHS Warehouse salvage merchandise).

New Neighborhood Business

Stolfa's Pizza is now open at 1002 North Linden Street on the corner of Linden and Walnut. The restaurant offers carry-out, delivery and drive through. Menus are available on their website: www.stolfaspizza.com

Holiday Party

Whites Place will be having its annual holiday gathering on Sunday, Dec. 18 at 5:00 p.m. The party will be hosted by the Gronemeiers at #22.

Please bring an appetizer or dessert to share.

Caroling will start at 6:30 p.m.

Halloween 2011 Tally

Fall Festival

The Fall Festival is this Saturday, October 29 at 5:00 p.m. The annual event is hosted by the Gronemeiers at #22. Please join us for hot dogs, chili, s'mores and more!

Kids are encouraged to dress up in their Halloween costumes. If you dare, the Boyles are hosting a Hauted House at #16.

White Place Historic District

The White Place Historic District is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places and encompasses 36.8 acres on White Place, Clinton Boulevard and Fell Avenue between Empire and Emerson Streets.

White Place has 209 contributing and 64 non-contributing buildings (including garages), 1 contributing site and 2 contributing structures (entrance gate and fountain). The majority of contributing buildings were built in the Colonial Revival or Craftsman architectural styles.

Contributing structures were built between 1895 and 1928.

White Place was added to the National Register on 1/12/88.

Condolences

Our neighbor, Loretta Rutledge, from 45N Whites Place, passed away on Saturday, Aug 13, 2011. Her memorial service will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Aug 22, at the East Lawn Funeral Home. Loretta was a long time resident of White Place and she will be missed. A full obituary ran in the Pantagraph on August 18.

Block Party

The annual Block Party is coming up fast! Join your neighbors on Saturday, August 13 at 5 p.m. for our traditional end of summer get together. This year the North End will be hosting the party. Everyone is asked to bring a side dish/dessert to share along with your own main course and utensils. The Neighborhood Association will provide soft drinks, chips and a cold keg. All motorized traffic will be blocked so we can all play in the street.
