Restoration Grants

The Old House Society recently announced its Restoration Grant Program. The program provides old house occupants with assistance and a helping hand in their efforts to repair or restore their old homes. The Restoration Grant Award is $500 ($250 in cash, and $250 in OHS Warehouse salvage merchandise).

Fall Festival


The Fall Festival is this Saturday, October 29 at 5:00 p.m. The annual event is hosted by the Gronemeiers at #22. Please join us for hot dogs, chili, s'mores and more!

Kids are encouraged to dress up in their Halloween costumes. If you dare, the Boyles are hosting a Hauted House at #16.

White Place Historic District

The White Place Historic District is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places and encompasses 36.8 acres on White Place, Clinton Boulevard and Fell Avenue between Empire and Emerson Streets.

White Place has 209 contributing and 64 non-contributing buildings (including garages), 1 contributing site and 2 contributing structures (entrance gate and fountain). The majority of contributing buildings were built in the Colonial Revival or Craftsman architectural styles.

Contributing structures were built between 1895 and 1928.

White Place was added to the National Register on 1/12/88.

Condolences

Our neighbor, Loretta Rutledge, from 45N Whites Place, passed away on Saturday, Aug 13, 2011. Her memorial service will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, Aug 22, at the East Lawn Funeral Home. Loretta was a long time resident of White Place and she will be missed. A full obituary ran in the Pantagraph on August 18.

Block Party

The annual Block Party is coming up fast! Join your neighbors on Saturday, August 13 at 5 p.m. for our traditional end of summer get together. This year the North End will be hosting the party. Everyone is asked to bring a side dish/dessert to share along with your own main course and utensils. The Neighborhood Association will provide soft drinks, chips and a cold keg. All motorized traffic will be blocked so we can all play in the street.

Fourth of July

The annual White Place Fourth of July Parade and Celebration is Monday, July 4. The parade begins at 10 am -- decorate your bikes, wagons, strollers, pets, etc. and join in! Or, line the street to cheer on the participants. There will also be games and water activities for the kids in the medians. Hope to see you all there!

Don't forget - the White Place Yard Sale is this Saturday, June 18 at 8 a.m. This is an excellent opportunity to clean out your closets/garages/basements/attics, etc! A classified ad will be placed in the Pantagraph and I'm told we usually get a good turnout.

House Tour

The Old House Society's annual House Tour is Saturday, June 11. Here's some more information:

2011 Annual House Tour
The Old House Society has organized and sponsored house tours for more than 25 years to help people visit, understand and develop an appreciation of our local historic homes. This year's tour will focus on the White Place Historical District (including houses on White Place, Fell Avenue and Clinton Avenue). This area has had a significant impression on our local community.

The tour will be held Saturday, June 11 from 10 a.m. to 4 pm.

Tickets can be purchased at the following places:
Old House Society Warehouse (214 E. Douglas St., Bloomington)
Garlic Press (Normal)
The David Davis Mansion Gift Shop (Bloomington)
Country Gingham (Bloomington)

Day of tour tickets will be available at the informational tent at Fell Park.

Cost: $10 (advance); $15 (day of tour); Children 12 & under Free
